The Background
Onyx Investment Advisory Limited was appointed by the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) as a consultant to spearhead a comprehensive strategy addressing the high rate of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, particularly focusing on the Almajiri system. This initiative is driven by an enhanced partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) under the SMART Education project, aiming to integrate formal education with Islamic teachings and modernize the Almajiri system.
The Solution
Onyx IAL, in collaboration with NSGF and IsDB, is developing an inclusive strategy to reduce the rate of out-of-school children by expanding access to education through infrastructure improvement, teacher capacity building, and curriculum reform. The program targets key areas such as agriculture, education, and livelihoods, benefiting over 500,000 people, with 50% of the beneficiaries being youth and 40% women.
